Portable Appliance Testing is an electrical safety test of all electrical appliances. It is a legal requirement for all employers and Landlords to ensure that appliances are safe and well maintained. The Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989 places responsibility of ensuring that all appliances within the work place are safe to use firmly with the employer. There are no such laws requiring companies to test portable appliances annually. Therefore, depending on the type of equipment, the environment that it is used in, type of users and frequency of use will all determine the frequency of inspection and testing.
